In her video "Migrants" Ekaterina Lazareva ironically appropriates the language of documentary films about wild nature combining the visual material – the observation of "life" of poplar seed tufts in the city environment - with sound track of "Le Peuple Migrateur", film by Jacques Perren and Jacques Cluzaud (in Russian distribution translated as "Birds"). Provoking the viewer for empathy with that, what usually arouse neglect and irritation, the artist offers to the public a kind of tolerance test and at the same time examines the strength of ideals of internationalism and multiculturalism and the nomadic poetics of free movement through borders of the countries and continents embodied by Le Peuple Migrateur. The video "Migrants" metaphorically addresses the problem of Russian xenophobia today in a situation when the direct representation appears problematic as the attempt to talk for the oppressed inevitably turns out an ethical trap.
