Political Minimal

In "Political Minimal" video, the artist uses simple low-tech devices such as an ophthalmologist electromechanical training apparatus and a small musical barrel organ that plays famous melody of "The Internationale". Reclaiming aesthetics of early cinema avant-guarde (ex. Marcel Duchamp's "Anemic Cinema") the video suggests an ironical comment on trendy political art of late 2000's that combines cool minimalist formalism with safe and inoffensive political pathos. The rotation of black and white stripes provokes the effect of hypnotic immobilization while the easy-listening version of revolutionary hymn – a lullaby of promise of a better future – dissipates the exigency of urgent changes.
