Text by Ekaterina Lazareva:

This work was created for the special issue of video magazine VIDIOT dedicated to a theme of the childhood. In my case childhood is not just a period in the past to remember, reconstruct and analyze. As I see my son's childhood every day I am not tired to observe it without any hope of understanding and without any illusion of superiority. I am absolutely convinced that initially children are ingenious. In the course of education we do their mediocre; finding language and getting used to social norms the majority loses this genius or may be just exhausts it somewhere inside. So how can I represent the childhood? I decided to hand the camera to my son as after Larionov and Picasso I consider that artist has to learn from children. Ivan was recording spontaneously reacting the process; this interaction with the camera was a game and a research simultaneously. He opened up the video, its expressive possibilities, and these adventures of images resemble the early age of the video-art itself.
